eating alone

I'm twenty years old, and I've never eaten alone.  Until tonight.  I've always been one of those people that won't go out to eat (or even eat in the school food court) if I don't have an eating buddy with me.  I watched an inspiring video a couple weeks ago that was posted on a blog that I follow on how being alone isn't a bad thing.  So, today I decided to try it.

The timing was perfect.  Nick was at work, Paige was at school, Brooke had left on a date, and Olivia was still at work.  The old me would have called whoever I could think of to come out to eat with me, or the old me would have stayed home and figured out some mess to throw together for dinner.  Tonight, though, I knew that I wanted to go to Green, so I went to Green. I ordered myself an appetizer and a meal and enjoyed it in solitude.

It was rough at first when the guy who worked there thought that I was picking up take-out, and then asked me again if my food was here or to-go.  I politely said "for here" and sat at my own little table.  I was afraid that I was going to be "one of those people" that I've sat at Oregano's who want their own table just for themselves, rather than sitting at the bar with the rest of the lonely people.  I realized that they do deserve a table, though, if that's the kind of experience they want to have.

I had a really nice time, and now that I've done it, I won't be afraid to do it again.

asu round 3

Today is the first day back to school.  It's been a fabulous summer filled with adventures, work, vacations, romance, drama, and food.  Even in the past couple of days--the transition from summer to the new semester--I can already tell that I'm a little bit different.  I don't know what's changed in me.  Maybe the fact that now I'm going to busier, everyone's back in town, the amount of parties & social gatherings has increased tenfold, or just the fear of the unknown.  There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a lovely fall semester, but it will definitely take some getting used to.

pizza challenge

Okay so yesterday was the day that El Casa Trio has been waiting for all summer.  We finally did the Venezia's Pizza Challenge.  Basically, you go to the store and you have to eat a 24" party size pizza in under an hour with just one other person.  We decided to make an event of it, so we had three teams that actually were committed to the challenge.  Joel & Dave, Paige & me, and Brooke & Pat.

Our pictures on the wall :)
It was awful.  The pizza started getting cold and we had a hard time finishing (not because we felt full but because the hardness of the cheese was disgusting).  After 50 minutes though, Paige and I completed the challenge!!  Brooke and Pat finished in 59 minutes, and Joel and Dave somehow finished in 26 minutes.  It's taken about 24 hours to recover, but we're all glad that we survived our first (and probably ONLY) eating contest haha.

We got our pictures taken to display on the wall, and we got free T-shirts!!  Oh....and Paige & I were the first girl/girl team to ever complete the pizza challenge :)

clean slate

I love clean slates.

I like the way they make me feel.  Now sometimes clean slates shouldn’t happen.  Sometimes it’s time to just let go.  When you know something is right, though, you just need to put all of your uncertainties behind you and fall head first into the unknown.  I’m still on the journey, but I’m really happy that I’ve decided to take it.
